Abstract

This study investigated the use of TikTok application as a teaching medium to empower students' speaking skills. Using a mixed methods approach with a sequential explanatory design, the study involved 40 ninth-grade students from SMPN 1 Ciledug. The students participated in a pre-test, received treatment through video-based speaking exercises on TikTok, and then took a post-test. In addition, 20 questionnaires were administered to assess students' perceptions of TikTok's effectiveness in speaking learning. The hypothesis tested was whether TikTok can significantly empower students' speaking skills. The results of the paired t-test showed a statistically significant improvement in students' speaking skills, with the pre-test mean score of 69 increasing to 79 in the post-test. The significance level of the paired t-test was 0.000<0.05, which leads to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha), indicating that There is an effect of TikTok as Learning Media Empower Speaking Skills. In addition, the results of the questionnaire show that the majority of students give a positive response to the use of TikTok as a learning medium, this is evidenced by 75% of students agree to the use of TikTok as a learning medium. In conclusion, TikTok can be considered as an effective and innovative tool to empower students' speaking skills.
