Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh keadaan di mana kekuasaan lahir dari bentrokan ideologi antara individu, kelompok atau kelas sosial dalam masyarakat yang mencerminkan bagaimana peran kelas sosial yang lebih tinggi mendominasi kelas bawah untuk mempertahankan kekuasaannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis konten (content analysis) dengan pendekatan kualitataif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian: 1) bentuk hegemoni yang ditemukan dalam novel Laut Bercerita karya Leila S. Chudori yaitu, kontrol, stigma, dominasi dan manipulasi. Hasil penelitian dilihat dari segi bentuk lebih mengedepankan pada gambaran bagaimana pemerintah Orde Baru mengontrol dan mendominasi masyarakat dengan cara pengawasan, menekan, mengekang, menahan, dan menindas dengan kekerasan fisik terhadap rakyat yang dianggap menyebarkan paham komunisme ataupun masyarakat yang mengkritik pemerintahan bertujuan untuk mempertahankan kekuasaannya 2) relasi hegemoni yang terdapat dalam novel Laut Bercerita karya Leila S. Chudori yaitu ada dua aspek: a) relasi atas pikiran, dan b) relasi atas tubuh; relasi atas tubuh sosial dan relasi atas tubuh individu. Hasil penelitian dari segi relasi lebih mengedepankan pada bagaimana praktik kekuasaan dihasilkan dengan cara mengatur tubuh sosial dan individu. Adapun praktik-praktik kekuasaan yang tercermin dalam novel ini lebih cenderung pada bagaimana penguasa melangsungkan hegemoni melalui media wacana dengan menyebarkan isu bahwa adanya organisasi Winatra dianggap sebagai pengkhianatan karena menentang ajaran demokratis pemerintahan Orde Baru. Selain itu, pemerintah Orde baru memproduksi hegemoni melalui praktik dengan menciptakan norma-norma yang kemudian direalisasikan oleh pekerja sosial, seperti aparat militer.

This research is motivated by a situation where power is born from ideological clashes between individuals, groups or social classes in society which reflects how the role of higher social classes dominates the lower classes to maintain their power. This research uses content analysis method with descriptive qualitative approach. Research results: 1) the forms of hegemony found in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori are control, stigma, domination and manipulation. The results of the research in terms of form prioritize the description of how the New Order government controls and dominates society by monitoring, Suppressing, restraining, and oppressing with physical violence against people who are considered to spread communism or people who criticize the government in order to maintain its power 2) hegemony relations found in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori, namely there are two aspects: a) relations to the mind, and b) relations to the body; relations to the social body and relations to the individual body. The results of the research in terms of relations emphasize how the practice of power is produced by regulating the body so that the body can be controlled. The research results in terms of relations emphasize how the practice of power is produced by organizing social bodies and individuals. The practices of power reflected in this novel are more likely to be how the ruler maintains hegemony through discourse media by spreading the issue that the existence of the Winatra organization is considered a betrayal because it opposes the democratic teachings of the New Order government. In addition, the New Order government produced hegemony through practice by creating norms that were then realized by social workers, such as the military apparatus.
