Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh perbedaan karakteristik media dalam penyajian karya sastra digital dan bagaimana hal tersebut memengaruhi respons pembaca terhadap teks. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji perbedaan respons pembaca terhadap teks yang sama di dua platform digital, yaitu Wattpad dan Webtoon. Rumusan masalah dalam Penelitian ini mencakup: (1) Bagaimana respon pembaca di kolom komentar pada aplikasi Wattpad? (2) Bagaimana respon pembaca di kolom komentar pada aplikasi Webtoon? (3) Bagaimana perbedaan respons pembaca di kolom komentar antara aplikasi Wattpad dan Webtoon? Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis isi. Sumber data berasal dari komentar pembaca pada cerita populer di Wattpad dan Webtoon, yang dianalisis menggunakan teori decoding Stuart Hall dengan tiga kategori: dominan, negosiasi, dan oposisi. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa decoding dominan merupakan respons yang paling banyak ditemukan di kedua platform, meskipun persentasenya lebih tinggi di Webtoon. Sementara itu, respons negosiasi dan oposisi lebih banyak ditemukan di Wattpad. Perbedaan ini dipengaruhi oleh karakteristik masing-masing media: format berbasis visual Webtoon mendorong keterlibatan emosional yang lebih langsung, sedangkan format berbasis teks Wattpad memfasilitasi interpretasi naratif yang lebih mendalam dan reflektif. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa pembaca merupakan subjek aktif yang secara sadar menerima, menegosiasi, atau menolak makna yang disajikan dalam teks.

This study is motivated by differences in media characteristics in the presentation of digital literature and how they influence readers' responses to texts. It aims to examine differences in reader responses to the same text on two digital platforms, Wattpad and Webtoon. The research questions include: (1) How do readers respond in the comment section on Wattpad? (2) How do readers respond in the comment section on Webtoon? (3) What are the differences between reader responses across both platforms? The study employs a qualitative descriptive method with a content analysis approach. The data sources consist of reader comments on popular stories from Wattpad and Webtoon, analyzed using Stuart Hall’s decoding theory, which categorizes responses into dominant, negotiated, and oppositional readings. The findings reveal that dominant decoding is the most prevalent response on both platforms, though it appears more frequently on Webtoon. Meanwhile, negotiated and oppositional responses are more commonly found on Wattpad. These differences are influenced by the unique characteristics of each medium: Webtoon’s visual-based format fosters immediate emotional engagement, whereas Wattpad’s text-based format facilitates deeper and more reflective narrative interpretation. This study underscores that readers are active subjects who consciously accept, negotiate, or reject the meaning presented in a text.
