Permasalahan yang melatarbelakangi penelitian ini adalah masih rendahnya kinerja guru. Fenomena yang sering terjadi dilapangan, menunjukan bahwa masih terdapat guru yang kurang maksimal dalam proses pembelajajaran dan evaluasi, penggunaan waktu dalam kerja, dan kejarsama dengan orang lain dalam bekerja yang kurang serta menunjukan semangat kerja yang rendah. Peneliti melakukan studi lapangan dengan mengumpulkan hasil adminitrasi guru pada beberapa SMP di Kabupaten Kuningan yang menunjukan masih belum sepenuhnya dalam mengumpulkan adminitrasi. Rendahnya kinerja guru diduga dipengaruhi oleh faktor kepemimpinan kepala sekolah, kompetensi guru yang dimiliki oleh para guru.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kepemimpinan kepala sekolah terhadap kinerja guru IPS SMP di Kabupaten Kuningan, serta untuk mengetahui apakah kompetensi guru memediasi pengaruh kepemimpinan kepala sekolah terhadap kinerja guru IPS SMP di Kabupaten Kuningan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah survey korelasional. Dan sampel yang digunakan adalah 164 orang guru IPS SMP di Kabupaten Kuningan.
Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa; Kepemimpinan kepala sekolah, kompetensi guru, dan kinerja guru berdasarkan hasil penelitian termasuk kedalam kategori sedang atau cukup; Kepemimpinan Kepala Sekolah berpengaruh terhadap Kinerja Guru. Artinya semakin efektif kepemimpinan kepala sekolah maka kinerja guru akan semakin meningkat; Kompetensi guru memediasi secara partial pengaruh kepemimpinan kepala sekolah terhadap kinerja guru IPS SMP di Kabupaten Kuningan. Artinya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah mempengaruhi kinerja guru baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung yaitu melalui kompetensi guru; Adapun saran dalam penelitian ini adalah: penelitian ini terbatas kepada variabel kepemimpinan kepala sekolah dan kompetensi guru yang mempengaruhi kinerja guru, maka diharapkan bagi peneliti selanjutnya untuk meneliti mengenai kinerja guru dilihat dari faktor lainnya seperti motivasi kerja, lingkungan kerja dan lain sebagainya.

The Influence of Principal Leadership on Teacher Performance with Teacher Competence as a Mediating Variable (A Survey on Social Studies Teachers in Junior High Schools in Kuningan Regency). The issue underlying this research is the low level of teacher performance. Common phenomena observed in the field show that there are still teachers who are not optimal in the teaching and evaluation processes, ineffective use of working time, lack of collaboration with others, and low work enthusiasm. The researcher conducted a field study by collecting administrative data from teachers in several junior high schools in Kuningan Regency, which showed that administrative tasks were not yet fully completed. The low performance of teachers is suspected to be influenced by the leadership of school principals and the competencies possessed by the teachers.
This study aims to determine the influence of principal leadership on the performance of Social Studies teachers in junior high schools in Kuningan Regency, as well as to examine whether teacher competence mediates the influence of principal leadership on teacher performance. The method used in this research is correlational survey, with a sample of 164 Social Studies teachers from junior high schools in Kuningan Regency.
The results show that principal leadership, teacher competence, and teacher performance are all in the moderate or sufficient category. Principal leadership has an influence on teacher performance, meaning that the more effective the principal's leadership, the better the teacher’s performance. Teacher competence partially mediates the influence of principal leadership on teacher performance. This means that principal leadership affects teacher performance both directly and indirectly through teacher competence. The study suggests that since this research is limited to the variables of principal leadership and teacher competence, future researchers are encouraged to examine teacher performance from other influencing factors such as work motivation, work environment, and so forth.
