Abstract

The grammar and semantic decisions made by the writer or speaker are expressed in relation to the process and participant categories, and it is analyzed in transitivity. This study aimed to identify types of transitivity process that are found in the “Learning English with Netflix’s One Piece” YouTube video and find out how transitivity processes realized by the speaker in the video. The methodology of this study was qualitative research method, with case study as the research design. After the data were collected, the researcher will continue to the next step, it is data analysis. The data were analyzed with the theory proposed by Halliday (2014) about transitivity systems. The finding showed that there are six types of transitivity process found. They are material process, mental process, behavioral process, verbal process, relational process, which is attributive process and identifying process, and existential process. The most used type in this study is material process with 84 occurrences s (33,5%), and material process is used in several types of English text. Based on the various types of English texts, the exact text type for this video is narrative text. It’s because narrative text describes events, actions, or experiences, and this video describes the events, actions, or experiences that happen in the live action series and analyze the spelling and unfamiliar words based on the scene.
