Abstract

Abstract: The aims of this research are to identify the forms categories of terminologies that used in TikTok vernacular based on gender users identity. A qualitative descriptive approach is used to discover these aspects. The data collection technique used was data collection on the TikTok application. Researcher as a key instrument of this research that found 60 vernacular terminologies on TikTok. This research used the theory from Jacobson (2017). The researcher categorized the data based on form and the gender identity of the content creator. The data obtained from personal accounts of 39 female users and 21 male users. The result shows that there are five forms of terminologies that are, 16 word form, 11 phrases form, 8 blending words form, 16 acronyms and initials form, and 9 adding prefix and suffixes form. There are some differences based on gender demographics of users such as emotional expression, language used, and content type. It can be concluded that the vernacular terminologies on TikTok used by users are very unique, varied, and dynamic.
