Abstract

This study aimed to explore the teaching and learning strategies that are commonly used at listening class and to identify students’ perception on perceiving various teaching strategies in listening class. This study used qualitative research as the research method. The participants were 2 English lecturers and 6 EFL learners. The results of this study show that the lecturers employed variety of strategies in listening class, such as combining Top-Down with Bottom-up strategies and combining Intensive listening with Extensive listening strategies. On the other hand, students highlights the importance of tailored and diversified learning strategies incorporating audio-visual technology and real-life interactions for optimal language skill development across proficiency levels. Students also endorse the current teaching strategies as effective tools for enhancing their listening skills and fostering a positive learning experience in the listening class. Moreover, students also share the same opinion that the current teaching strategies employed by their lecturers in listening class are enjoyable, suitable for them, and even contributing a lot in the development of their listening skill.
