Abstract

This research investigates the use of small group presentations to improve students' speaking skills. Conduct as a quantitative study, it employs a quasi-experimental design involving 72 tenth-grade students from SMAN 1 Ciawigebang. The study uses two instruments: a pre-test and post-test, and a questionnaire. The independent t-test results for both tests showed a significant difference between the experimental group's and the control group's mean scores. The experimental group's mean pre-test score was 67, which increased to 81 in the post-test. Additionally, the paired t-test's level of significance (sig2-tailed) lower than the alpha (0.001<0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pre- and post-test means for the experimental group. Furthermore, the majority of students agree with 25 questionnaire items covering psychic, cognitive, and emotional aspects, suggesting that small group discussions help them overcome their speaking anxiety. In conclusion, using small group presentations as a teaching model effectively reduces students' speaking anxiety and enhances their speaking abilities.
