Abstract

SMP Negeri 1 Cilimus menghadapi kendala keterbatasan penyimpanan server dan tingginya beban bandwidth akibat besarnya ukuran dokumen persyaratan PPDB yang diunggah calon siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengimplementasikan mekanisme kompresi dokumen berbasis foto menggunakan algoritma Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) untuk mengoptimalkan penyimpanan tanpa mengurangi kualitas visual citra. Sistem dikembangkan menggunakan metodologi Rapid Application Development (RAD) dengan framework Laravel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan algoritma LZW sangat efektif dengan rata-rata penghematan ruang penyimpanan (space saving) mencapai 84,45%. Pengujian kualitas visual mengonfirmasi bahwa dokumen tetap jelas untuk kebutuhan administrasi (lossless). Selain itu, sistem memperoleh tingkat kelayakan dari pengguna sebesar 88,4% (Sangat Layak). Simpulan penelitian ini adalah algoritma LZW berhasil memberikan solusi optimal dalam efisiensi penyimpanan data PPDB di SMPN 1 Cilimus.

SMP Negeri 1 Cilimus faces challenges with limited server storage and high bandwidth traffic due to the large file sizes of PPDB requirement documents uploaded by applicants. This study aims to implement a photo-based document compression mechanism using the Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) algorithm to optimize storage without compromising the visual quality of the images. The system was developed using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology and the Laravel framework. The results indicate that the application of the LZW algorithm is highly effective, achieving an average space saving of 84,45%. Visual quality testing confirmed that the compressed documents remain clear for administrative purposes (lossless). Furthermore, the system received a user acceptance score of 88,4%, placing it in the "Very Feasible" category. The conclusion of this study is that the LZW algorithm successfully provides an optimal solution for storage efficiency in the PPDB system at SMPN 1 Cilimus.
