Abstract

Abstract
The Javan leopard (Panthera pardus melas) is a top predator endemic to the island
of Java, playing a vital role in maintaining forest ecosystem balance. However, its
existence is increasingly threatened by habitat fragmentation, poaching, and human
activities. This study aims to analyze the spatial distribution of the Javan leopard in
Mount Ciremai National Park (MCNP) to support conservation efforts. The
Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) method was employed to model the species’ potential
distribution using presence data obtained from camera traps and environmental
variables such as elevation, land cover, distance to water sources, and road density.
The modeling results indicate that highly suitable habitats are concentrated in the
northwestern and southeastern parts of the park, with forest cover and distance from
human settlements being the most influential factors. The model performed well,
with an Area Under the Curve (AUC) value exceeding 0.7 indicating high predictive
accuracy. These findings can serve as a foundation for habitat management and
human-wildlife conflict mitigation strategies in and around the national park.

Abstrak
Macan tutul jawa (Panthera pardus melas) merupakan predator puncak endemik
pulau Jawa yang berperan penting dalam menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem hutan.
Namun, keberadaannya semakin terancam oleh fragmentasi habitat, perburuan liar,
dan aktivitas manusia. Metode Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) digunakan untuk
memodelkan potensi distribusi spesies menggunakan data kehadiran yang diperoleh
dari kamera jebak dan variabel lingkungan seperti ketinggian, tutupan lahan, jarak
ke sumber air, dan kepadatan jalan. Hasil pemodelan menunjukkan bahwa habitat
yang sangat sesuai terkonsentrasi di bagian barat laut dan tenggara taman, dengan
tutupan hutan dan jarak dari pemukiman manusia menjadi faktor yang paling
berpengaruh. Model ini berkinerja baik, dengan nilai Area Under the Curve (AUC)
yang melebihi 0,7 yang menunjukkan akurasi prediktif yang tinggi. Temuan ini
dapat menjadi dasar bagi pengelolaan habitat dan strategi mitigasi konflik antara
manusia dan satwa liar di dalam dan di sekitar taman nasional.
