Abstract

This research aims to improve students’ comprehension skill in reading folktales by using CLIL method and to find out the strength and weaknesses of using CLIL method in improving students’ reading comprehension skill. The method used in this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The participant was an English Teacher and 14 students Boarding School Al-Ikhlash Female. The research was carried out 1 cycle; the data were in the form qualitative and quantitative data. The result of this research showed that the students’ reading comprehension skill was improved after the action was given to the students. Minimum Mastery Criterion of English subject was 75. It shows in students’ reading comprehension score in the pre-test to the post test. The mean score for the pre-test was 59.4 and the mean score for post-test was 85.7. It means students reading comprehension improvement from pre-test to post-test was 44.27%. This means all students passed the minimum mastery criterion. Besides, using CLIL method could improve students’ communication and reading comprehension skill. Furthermore, CLIL need extra effort for EFL students’ in understanding the vocabularies knowledge in the text.
