Abstract

This research aims to understand one aspect of island biogeography theory, specifically the relationship between area size and the level of insect species diversity in three areas of different sizes within the Ciremai Mountain National Park (TNGC), namely Ciremai Mountain, Batu Karang, and Gunung Putri. This research was conducted from December 2023 to January 2024 using three traps: a butterfly net, a sweep net, and a light trap, with an analysis of species accumulation curves, the Shannon-Wiener diversity index, and Spearman rank correlation tests. Based on the research results, the insect diversity of Mount Ciremai has the highest diversity level of 4.317, with 9 orders and 88 species of insects. Meanwhile, Batu Karang, with a medium area size, has a diversity level of 3.499, with 10 orders and 44 species. The smallest area, Mount Putri, has the lowest diversity level of 3.254, with 9 orders and 34 species. The results obtained indicate that the relationship between area size and insect species diversity has a significant and direct correlation, meaning that the larger the area, the higher the species diversity within it
