Abstract

The Javan Langur (Trachypithecus auratus) is an endemic primate species of Indonesia distributed across Java, Bali, and Lombok, playing an important role in maintaining forest ecosystem balance. This study aimed to examine the daily activities of the Javan Langur in the Gunung Tilu Forest, Banyuhurip Block, Kuningan Regency. The research was conducted from June to August 2025 using the scan sampling method at ten-minute intervals from 07:00 to 17:00 WIB. Data were analyzed quantitatively and descriptively to determine the percentage of each activity category, namely feeding, locomotion, resting, and social (grooming) activities.
The results showed that the daily activities of the Javan Langur were dominated by locomotion (37%), followed by feeding (35%), resting (17%), and social activities (11%). Locomotion and feeding activities were most frequent in the morning, while resting activity increased during midday when the temperature was higher. Social activities such as autogrooming and allogrooming were commonly observed in the afternoon. This pattern indicates that the Javan Langurs in Gunung Tilu primarily focused on movement and food searching to meet their daily energy needs.
This study provides valuable ecological data that can serve as a scientific basis for the management and conservation of the Javan Langur population in Gunung Tilu. Habitat protection, prevention of forest encroachment, and community involvement are crucial for ensuring the long-term survival of this endangered species in the wild.
