Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest levels of biodiversity in the world, including in terms of waterbird species diversity. Waterbirds are known to be the world's largest group of migratory birds. Ecologically, waterbirds depend on various types of wetlands, both natural and artificial, such as mangrove forests, swamps, mudflats, ponds, and rice fields. Waterbird populations are currently experiencing significant declines due to habitat degradation, climate change, and the pressures of human activities. The Jatigede Reservoir, located in Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency, has wetland characteristics that support the survival of waterbirds. Therefore, this study focused on assessing the diversity of waterbird species and populations in the Jatigede Reservoir area. This study was conducted for one month at the Jatigede Reservoir, Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency. Observations were conducted using the Concentration Count method. Observations were conducted at two times: in the morning from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. and in the afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Bird species diversity for each habitat type and the entire area was measured using the Schonnon-Wiener index. Population was measured using the average value. Based on the research results, the level of waterbird diversity in the Jatigede Reservoir showed a result of 1.26. According to the Shonnon-Wiener index, this figure is classified as moderate. Meanwhile, the average value in the waterbird population at all observation locations was 136 individuals with a maximum population value of 62 individuals and a minimum population value of 13 individuals. The highest average value was for the rice field blekok bird (Ardeola speciose) species, namely 85 individuals at 4 observation locations with a maximum value of 29 individuals and a minimum value of 6 individuals in each observation. Meanwhile, the great egret (Ardea alba) species only had a value of 1 individual at all observation locations with a maximum population value of 2 individuals and a minimum population value of 1 individual in all research locations.

Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara dengan tingkat keanekaragaman hayati tertinggi di dunia, termasuk dalam hal keanekaragaman jenis burung air. Burung air dikenal sebagai kelompok burung migran terbesar di dunia. Secara ekologis, burung air bergantung pada berbagai jenis lahan basah, baik alami maupun buatan, seperti hutan bakau, rawa, dataran lumpur, kolam, dan sawah. Populasi burung air saat ini mengalami penurunan yang signifikan akibat degradasi habitat, perubahan iklim, dan tekanan aktivitas manusia. Waduk Jatigede yang terletak di Kecamatan Jatigede, Kabupaten Sumedang, memiliki karakteristik lahan basah yang mendukung kelangsungan hidup burung air. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini difokuskan pada pengkajian keanekaragaman jenis dan populasi burung air di wilayah Waduk Jatigede. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama satu bulan di Waduk Jatigede, Kecamatan Jatigede, Kabupaten Sumedang. Pengamatan dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Concentration Count. Pengamatan dilakukan pada dua waktu yaitu pagi hari pukul 06.00-09.00 dan sore hari pukul 15.00-17.00. Keanekaragaman jenis burung untuk setiap tipe habitat dan keseluruhan kawasan diukur dengan menggunakan indeks Schonnon-Wiener. Populasi diukur dengan menggunakan nilai rata-rata. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, tingkat keanekaragaman burung air di Waduk Jatigede menunjukkan hasil sebesar 1,26. Menurut indeks Shonnon-Wiener, angka tersebut tergolong sedang. Sementara itu, nilai rata-rata pada populasi burung air di semua lokasi pengamatan sebesar 136 individu dengan nilai populasi maksimum 62 individu dan nilai populasi minimum 13 individu. Nilai rata-rata tertinggi terdapat pada jenis burung blekok sawah (Ardeola speciose) yaitu sebanyak 85 individu pada 4 lokasi pengamatan dengan nilai maksimum 29 individu dan nilai minimum 6 individu pada setiap pengamatan. Sementara itu, spesies kuntul besar (Ardea alba) hanya memiliki nilai 1 individu di semua lokasi pengamatan dengan nilai populasi maksimum 2 individu dan nilai populasi minimum 1 individu di semua lokasi penelitian.
