Abstract

The long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) is a primate species that relies heavily on forest vegetation as a natural food source. This research aims to identify the types of vegetation serving as food and analyze the adequacy of food sources for the long-tailed macaque in the secondary forest of Sukamenak Village, Bantarujeg Subdistrict, Majalengka Regency. Vegetation analysis was conducted using the transect method at the pole and tree levels, assessing species density, frequency, dominance, and Important Value Index (IVI). The results show that 11 plant species serve as primary food sources, notably Lansium domesticum (kokosan), Pyrenaria serrata (ki jeruk), Schima wallichii (puspa), and Antidesma bunius (wuni). The vegetation diversity index (Shannon-Wiener) ranged from 2.602 to 2.674, indicating a moderate level of diversity. Most food species produce fruit during the November–April period, With the season among others May and October. This seasonal scarcity may trigger crop-raiding behavior and human-wildlife conflict. Species such as Ficus ampelas, which fruit year-round, are crucial as buffer food sources. This study provides baseline data for conservation strategies aimed at enhancing habitat quality and mitigating human–macaque conflicts.
Keywords: Macaca fascicularis, food potential, secondary forest.
