Abstract

Since 2017, Kuningan University has adopted a Green Campus policy, with Green Open Spaces (RTH) featuring diverse vegetation types that may influence the microclimate and soil conditions. This study aimed to determine the infiltration rate in micro RTHs at Campus 1 and analyze its relationship with vegetation density classified into herbs/lawns, shrubs, and trees. Using purposive sampling, data were collected from three plots per vegetation type. Research methods included vegetation inventory, calculation of Importance Value Index (IVI), and infiltration measurement using a double-ring infiltrometer. Analysis involved the Horton infiltration model, ANOVA, and correlation tests. Results showed that all vegetation types had a “very slow” infiltration rate, both in actual and model-based calculations. Shrubs had the highest average rate (0.312 cm/min), followed by trees (0.121 cm/min), and herbs/lawns (0.116 cm/min). The generally low infiltration capacity is likely influenced by the site's history as former rice fields with Latosol soil, averaging 0.87 cm/hour (moderately slow). Correlation analysis revealed a weak to moderate positive relationship between vegetation density and infiltration rate (r = 0.391; p = 0.209), which was not statistically significant. Regression results also indicated a positive but non-significant effect (B = 0.061; p = 0.209). These findings highlight the need for improved soil management and vegetative planning to enhance infiltration in campus green areas.
